Kylie Alsofrom, Director of Schools, Bay Area

Kylie Alsofrom is a Director of Schools for Rocketship Public Schools.  Kylie began her career in education as a Teach For America corps member at DC Bilingual Public Charter School, where she became a committed Special Education teacher and advocate, winning the Edith Tatel Excellence in Teaching award. In 2011, after receiving leadership training and experience as a TFA Corps Member Advisor and providing training and mentoring to a group of incoming corps members, Kylie joined the staff of the DC Prep Edgewood Elementary Campus in Northeast. There she taught 2nd grade serving as the 2nd Grade Level Lead for her campus. Throughout the span of Kylie’s teaching career, she invested in internalizing the common core standards by teaching grades 1st-5th.

Kylie was part of the inaugural class of TeachPlus Policy Fellows in DC working to give educators a voice in education reform and policy. She additionally worked as a coach for the DC Common Core Collaborative, partnering with Learnzillion, to create common core driven math performance tasks and lessons for teachers. Kylie became an instructional leader; coaching teachers, developing content curriculum and providing professional development around the Common Core standards in mathematics and informational reading at DC Prep Benning Elementary as the Math and Science/Social Studies Coordinator. Kylie also completed a term as an Education Innovation Fellow, an initiative of the CityBridge Foundation and NewSchools Venture Fund, to explore promising innovations in blended learning.

Kylie then became an Assistant Principal at Rocketship Spark Academy, later to become the founding Principal of Rocketship Rising Stars Academy. As the principal of Rising Stars Academy, Kylie led her students to become a Bay Area Top Public School, ranking as the #2 school in the bay area in math.

Kylie earned her master’s degree in Special Education from George Mason University and holds a B.A. in American Studies and Art History from Claremont McKenna College.
