Michael Rabin, Founding Principal, Rocketship Legacy Prep

Michael Rabin comes to Rocketship’s second DC school with experience in educational leadership from several charter schools. Michael has been a founding Assistant Principal at Rockeship Rise Academy in DC, working to open the school, coach teachers, and create a strong school culture. At Rise, Michael coached the kindergarten team and led the Positive Behavioral Intervention and Supports (PBIS) team.

Michael is a firm believer that Rocketship has the unique opportunity to not only make true transformational change for  DC students and families, but to also positively impact the entire educational landscape in the city. Michael believes strongly in building a school that becomes part of the community – a place where Rocketeers and their families feel proud to call home and is representative of their identities, backgrounds, and cultures.

Prior to joining Rocketship, Michael was a principal intern at Prospect Hill Academy Charter School in Cambridge, MA, and worked as the co-director of academic achievement at Achievement Prep Public Charter School Network in Washington, DC (Ward 8). Before moving into school leadership, Michael taught 5th and 6th grade history, and middle school Spanish in Washington, DC and Prince George’s County, Maryland.

Michael received a bachelor’s degree from Emory University where he received Phi Beta Kappa recognition, a master’s degree in teaching from American University, a master’s degree in school leadership from Harvard University, and was a member of Relay Graduate School of Education’s National Principals Academy Fellowship. Michael is a native Chicagoan who has now lived in DC for 8 years. He lives in Capitol Hill with his wife, Monica, and their young daughter, Devon.
