Michael Spencer, Labor and Employee Relations Specialist, Washington DC Department of Behavioral Health

Michael is an attorney and civic leader with extensive experience in DC Government, the private sector, and the community. He currently serves as Labor and Employee Relations Specialist with the DC Department of Behavioral Health. He offers a multi-dimensional understanding of the opportunities and obstacles facing local government and the diverse communities it serves. Prior to working with the DC Department of Behavioral Health, Michael was the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Vangarde Strategies, where he advised organizations on leadership development and issues of diversity, inclusion and equity. Michael received his Juris Doctor from Ohio State University, where he was awarded the Dean’s Special Award for Leadership and awarded the Nelson Mandela Scholarship. Mr. Spencer also has a Masters of Arts in International Affairs from Ohio University Athens, with a concentration in communication and development studies nominated for a Rhodes scholarship.
