10 Children’s Podcasts to Enjoy During School Closures

Are you looking for educational activities for your child this week? To help you navigate recent school closures, Rocketship’s team of educational experts shared their top children’s podcasts so young learners can stay entertained.

1. Stories Podcast
This child-friendly podcast performs a new story for children every week. Stories range from retellings of fairy tales like Snow White to classic stories like Peter Rabbit and even completely original works if you probably haven’t heard yet. Everything is G-rated and safe for all ages.

2. Reading Bug Adventures
Ready to fly? Created by a local, independent bookstore in San Carlos, Reading Bug Adventures takes children on a fantastical journey exploring new books, concepts, and worlds all while soaring on Reading Bug’s magic book bag. Don’t forget to bring paper and crayons to color your own illustrations along the way.

3. Brains On
Brains On is an award-winning audio show for kids and families. Each week, a different child co-host joins Molly Bloom to find answers to fascinating questions about the world. Its mission is to encourage kids’ natural curiosity and wonder using science and history. But there’s no age limit on curiosity! Episodes of Brains On are enjoyed by all.

4. Wow in the World
In this NPR for Kids podcast, hosts Mindy Thomas and Guy Raz guide curious children and their grown-ups on a journey into the wonders of the world around them. They go inside their brains, out into space and deep into the coolest new stories in science and technology.

5. But Why: A Podcast For Curious Kids
But Why is a show led by little ones. Children ask the questions and they find the answers. It’s a big, interesting world out there. But Why tackles topics large and small about nature, words, even the end of the world. One example: Why do we fall asleep? Tune in to find out!

6. What If World
What if a tiny dragon lived in my closet? What if there were a never-ending bowl of ice cream? What if cats ruled the world? Join Abacus P Grumbler, Randall Radbot, and Whendiana Joan as they help Mr. Eric tell wacky stories inspired by kids’ questions! You can even call to leave a voicemail at 205-605-WHAT and be featured on the show.

7. KidNuz
Children like to be informed and engaged, but talking to kids about the news can be a challenge. This podcast, created by moms who are broadcast journalists, offers young listeners five minutes of kid-friendly news (followed by a quick quiz) each day, five days a week. Perfectly timed for waking up, KidNuz lets you start the day off on a worldy note.

8. Noodle Loaf
This interactive podcast was born from the brain of a music education specialist father and his goofball kids. For about 10 minutes at a time, Noodle Loaf invites families to come together for some creative fun. The show is geared for kids 3-9 years old but children across all ages enjoy it.

9. Sesame Street Podcast
The Sesame Street video podcast features the furry and loveable Muppets of Sesame Street. On the show, sing songs with Elmo, Abby, Cookie Monster and Grover. Kids learn about friendship, patience and sharing with Bert and Ernie. They also get to celebrate the sunny days with all of their favorite Muppets with new episodes every Monday!

10. Peace Out
Looking to end the day with some calming kindness and relaxation? Peace Out features short stories that help children mellow out by guiding them through visualization and breathing exercises.
