MenSa Maa is the principal of Rocketship Legacy Prep. He is an educator, healer, father, husband, and son.
As founder of Waterbearer Coaching and Consulting he is a certified Kemetic Yoga Instructor, Master
Certified Professional Coach, and Educator – bringing the tools of self-regulation, meditation, and awareness to his coaching clients and all of those he serves.
MenSa coaches leaders through a holistic perspective and facilitates conversations around diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice. As a Kemetic Yoga Instructor, MenSa currently holds two separate spaces for the healing of men of the African diaspora: “Brothers and Breath” which operates out of his home studio in Clinton, MD and “Rest is Our Resistance”, a safe space for men in Washington, DC who are experiencing housing insecurity to find the restoration, calm, and resilience they require to continue to persevere through all their life’s challenges.
MenSa began his professional journey as a substitute teacher in his hometown of Mount Vernon, New York before becoming a teacher in Washington, DC Public Schools. He has served as a school principal in Washington, DC Public Schools; the Holmes County School District in Mississippi, and most recently in Prince George’s County Public Schools in MD. MenSa has also served as a leader in national educational non-profit organizations training teachers and sharing the science of the brain and how the impacts of adversity and trauma can impact the healthy development of children, and how adults can create the context that allows all children to get on a healthy developmental track.
He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Syracuse University in Psychology and African-American Studies, a Master of Professional Studies from Cornell University in Africana Studies, and a Master of Science Degree in Educational Administration from Trinity University. MenSa also teaches swim classes as a certified swim instructor through the American Red Cross.
MenSa is most proud of being married to his wife Dr. Monica Maa, DVM for 20+ years, being God Daddy to Wayne Goss Jr. (21) and raising two amazing daughters Genesis Marley (17) and Makeda Assata (15) who serve as his primary teachers.
