El jueves, 27 de Octubre, padres de Rocketship Education, Voices College Bound Language Academies, Alpha Public Schools y otras escuelas ch\u00e1rter se unieron para acoger a los candidatos de la Oficina de Educaci\u00f3n del Condado de Santa Clara y tambi\u00e9n de la Asamblea del Distrito 27 de California en el 2016 Foro de Candidatos. Mas de 1.300 miembros de la comunidad asistieron para abogar para la educaci\u00f3n y para escuchar los puntos de vista de los candidatos sobre problemas que afectan nuestras comunidades como recursos para inmigrantes, libre elecci\u00f3n de escuelas y vivienda.<\/p>\n<p><em>Scroll down for English<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Aunque ya han tenido lugar varios foros de candidatos en esta temporada de elecciones, nosotros hemos hecho algo diferente el 27 de Octubre. Este foro fue organizado completamente por padres para padres. Todos tenemos a alguien que nos ha cambiado la vida. Alguien que se preocup\u00f3 apasionadamente por nuestros futuros y luch\u00f3 para garantizar que tuvi\u00e9ramos las oportunidades que ellos no tuvieron. Esa persona estableci\u00f3 el fundamento sobre la que continu\u00e1mos la lucha por nuestros hijos y por el futuro de nuestra regi\u00f3n. Sabemos que nuestras voces tienen poder y que podemos ser agentes de cambio. Independientemente de nuestra idioma, clase socioecon\u00f3mica, g\u00e9nero, o nivel de educaci\u00f3n; nosotros como padres sabemos lo que es mejor para nuestros hijos y nuestras comunidades. Para ellos levantamos nuestra voz.<\/p>\n<p>La brecha acad\u00e9mica ha existido por mucho tiempo y lamentablemente est\u00e1 creciendo. La meta para este foro fue dar la oportunidad a la comunidad de escuchar la plataforma de cada candidato para que uno pueda hacer la mejor decisi\u00f3n para sus familias y comunidad el d\u00eda de elecciones. Tras meses de preparaci\u00f3n, organizaci\u00f3n y persistencia, fue gratificante ver a tanta gente unirse como poderosos y informados votantes y miembros de la comunidad.<\/p>\n<p>El mes de noviembre es importante para nuestra naci\u00f3n por muchos motivos, lo mas apremiante que celebramos elecciones. Estas elecciones me han ense\u00f1ado que la pol\u00edtica tambi\u00e9n se realiza desde la base hasta arriba. El involucramiento local y la abogac\u00eda puedan tener una verdadera impacto en nuestras comunidades, y hay que continuar ejerciendo este poder. Noviembre tambi\u00e9n es el Mes del Involucramiento de los Padres. Todos los padres l\u00edderes como yo, nos enorgullecemos en ser involucrados en la educaci\u00f3n de nuestros hijos y hemos dado cuenta que tambi\u00e9n es necesario de crear relaciones con los oficiales electos para provocar cambios significativos. Por eso organizamos este evento. Es debido a\u00a0los cientos de padres que participaron, que nuestros funcionarios del Condado de Santa Clara saben que deben prestar atenci\u00f3n a los padres, especialmente cuando se trata de la educaci\u00f3n de nuestros hijos. Muchas gracias a todos que vinieron para apoyarnos en el 2016 Foro de Candidatos.<br \/>\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/player.vimeo.com\/video\/249597819?color=f3732c&amp;title=0&amp;byline=0&amp;portrait=0\" width=\"460\" height=\"160\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h5><span style=\"color: #f3732c;\">Engaged Parents Organize the 2016 Education Candidates Forum<\/span><\/h5>\n<p>My name is Alexandrea Martinez and I am a parent leader from Rocketship Fuerza Community Prep. On Thursday, October 27th, parents from Rocketship Education, Voices College Bound Language Academies, and Alpha Public Schools as well as other charter networks, hosted candidates running for the Santa Clara County Office of Education and the California Assembly District 27 in the 2016 Education Candidates Forum. Over 1,300 community members came to this event in order to advocate for their children&#8217;s education and hear the candidates&#8217; views on important issues that affect our communities like school choice, resources for immigrants, and housing in the Bay Area.<\/p>\n<p>While there have been many candidate forums this election season, we did something different. This forum was organized entirely by parents, for parents. We organized this event because we all have somebody who has shaped our lives. We all have someone who cared passionately about our futures and fought to ensure we had the opportunities they did not. That person set the foundation for us to continue the fight for our children and the future of our region. We know that our voices put together hold power, and that we can be agents of change. Regardless of our language, socioeconomic class, gender, or education level; we as parents know what is best for our children and our communities. They are for whom we raise our voice.<\/p>\n<p>The achievement gap is real, and sadly it is growing. Our goal for this forum was to give the community a space to hear each candidate&#8217;s platform in order to make the best decision for their families on election day. After months of preparation, organizing\u00a0and persistence, it was humbling to see so many people come together as powerful, informed, and organized voters.<\/p>\n<p>The month of November is an important time for our nation for many reasons, the most pressing being that we hold elections. Elections have shown me that\u00a0politics happens from the ground up. Local engagement and advocacy can have real impact in our communities, and we must continue to exercise this power. November is also National Parent Engagement Month. All of us parent leaders<span class=\"m_-2970280194918837095gmail-text_exposed_show\">\u00a0pride ourselves on being engaged in our children&#8217;s education. We have come to realize that the only way to bring about meaningful change is to build relationships with elected officials in our communities. That is why we organized this event.
