The K-4th school in Ward 8, to be opened in August\u00a02016, will be\u00a0a 54,000 square foot building on a campus\u00a0of nearly four acres. The school\u2019s cafeteria, learning lab, outdoor gathering space, playgrounds\u00a0and southern-facing classrooms will enjoy a spectacular view of the surrounding trees and hills.<\/p>\n<p>The campus will also include a nature trail for students to enjoy, a unique offering in the\u00a0school\u2019s urban setting.\u00a0The Washington, DC community is dedicated to providing every student access to a stellar\u00a0education. And while the city has made great strides towards this goal, less than half of\u00a0students in Washington, DC are on grade level. The southeast communities in the District\u00a0demonstrate an even greater need with less than a third of students on grade level. Rocketship is committed to partnering with these families so their children receive the\u00a0education they deserve.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-1978 size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/www.rocketshipschools.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/dc1-front-entrance-rendering-1.png?w=300\" alt=\"Rocketship Education DC Front Entrance Rendering\" width=\"300\" height=\"124\" \/>The groundbreaking ceremony featured many speakers, including\u00a0Anthony Lorenzo Green, Chairman of the Advisory\u00a0Neighborhood Commission, and\u00a0<span class=\"blue\">Scott Pearson,\u00a0<\/span>Executive Director of DC Public Charter School Board, but for the keynote, proud Ward 8 parent Keisha Clark delivered a heart-felt speech.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/player.vimeo.com\/video\/126003497?color=f3732c&amp;byline=0&amp;portrait=0\" width=\"460\" height=\"160\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/vimeo.com\/126003497\">DC Parent: \u201cWe can get our Community Back\u201d<\/a> from <a href=\"https:\/\/vimeo.com\/rsed\">Escuelas p\u00fablicas Rocketship<\/a> on <a href=\"https:\/\/vimeo.com\">Vimeo<\/a>.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><em>Keisha Clark has lived in the Woodland Terrace Community (across the street from Rocketship&#8217;s first DC campus) for five years. She has three daughters: Britteny (11-years-old), Lonisha (17) and future Rocketeer Ky-Arnie (4).
