Invitar a mis seres queridos a casa tuvo un profundo impacto en mi vida; pas\u00e9 23 a\u00f1os sinti\u00e9ndome como un fraude, poco digno de amor y roto. Ese mismo a\u00f1o, Frank Ocean, un artista de R&B, escribi\u00f3 un \"carta de salida<\/a>\u201d y realmente cambi\u00f3 toda mi perspectiva. Describi\u00f3 la sexualidad de una manera que me hizo sentir comprendido y sin verg\u00fcenza. Despu\u00e9s de invitar a mis seres queridos, me cost\u00f3 mucho recuperarme. Fue casi un renacimiento. Hab\u00eda tantas cosas que ahora estaba redefiniendo para m\u00ed misma. \u00bfQu\u00e9 tipo de ropa me gusta realmente? \u00bfCu\u00e1les son los colores que quiero que me representen o que me gustan? Durante tanto tiempo, le dije a todo el mundo que mi color favorito era el azul, pero mi color favorito era en secreto el morado, simplemente nunca me sent\u00ed c\u00f3moda dici\u00e9ndolo.<\/p>\n

El Mes del Orgullo crea un espacio de seguridad, protecci\u00f3n, validaci\u00f3n y compa\u00f1erismo, permiti\u00e9ndonos celebrar el brillo, la creatividad y la fortaleza dentro de nuestra comunidad. Es f\u00e1cil asociar a la comunidad LGBTQ+ con la resiliencia y la marginaci\u00f3n, pero es igualmente importante celebrar el maravilloso poder que proviene de ser fiel a uno mismo y a su identidad, el maravilloso poder que proviene de estar orgulloso.<\/p>\n

S\u00ed, ser abiertamente gay puede ser pesado a veces, pero tambi\u00e9n lo veo como un regalo, casi como un superpoder, porque me ayuda a encontrar puntos en com\u00fan f\u00e1cilmente. Durante a\u00f1os, fui condicionado a encajar identificando similitudes con los dem\u00e1s. Ahora es algo natural para m\u00ed encontrar puntos en com\u00fan con cualquier persona que conozca. Esto es especialmente cierto para m\u00ed como una persona gay, negra y puertorrique\u00f1a: tengo muchas identidades interseccionales para encontrar puntos en com\u00fan. El \u00e9xito para m\u00ed siempre ha sido la autodeterminaci\u00f3n y vivir una vida llena de opciones. Eso no se trata solo de a qu\u00e9 escuela vas y qu\u00e9 trabajo tienes, sino tambi\u00e9n de a qui\u00e9n amas, a qui\u00e9n consideras tu comunidad y con qui\u00e9n pasas tiempo. Mi visi\u00f3n a largo plazo es un mundo en el que los ni\u00f1os puedan tener esa amplitud de elecci\u00f3n. Quiero que los ni\u00f1os sean ellos mismos sin estigma, teniendo una gama de opciones que reflejen sus verdaderas identidades. En \u00faltima instancia, se trata de autodeterminaci\u00f3n, elecci\u00f3n y val\u00eda. Esa sensaci\u00f3n de val\u00eda es tan importante para crear un sentido de confianza y poder navegar por el mundo como si pertenecieras all\u00ed.
