Hay un gran poder en la autodefensa. Por encima de todas las habilidades, \u00e9sta es la que llevar\u00e1 los resultados de nuestros alumnos m\u00e1s lejos que ninguna otra cosa. La capacidad de hacer una pregunta aclaratoria, arriesgarse a dar una respuesta equivocada y alzar la voz cuando algo parece injusto capacita a los alumnos para luchar constantemente por la excelencia. Un futuro pr\u00f3spero y satisfactorio comienza con la autodefensa. Anima a los estudiantes a trabajar y a luchar sin descanso por lo que quieren y necesitan, tanto si compiten por una plaza en una facultad de Derecho de prestigio como si protestan contra las leyes discriminatorias de su gobierno local. Ellos tienen el poder de hacer realidad sus sue\u00f1os.<\/p>\n

Animo a los alumnos a que sean sinceros y hablen abiertamente de cualquier cosa de mi clase o de nuestro campus que les guste, no les guste o de la que quieran ver m\u00e1s. Lo hacemos dos veces por semana durante una reuni\u00f3n de clase. En estas reuniones, los estudiantes pueden expresar sus preocupaciones sin ser juzgados. Esto ayuda a los estudiantes a superar la ansiedad que puede impedirles participar en la ense\u00f1anza.<\/p>\n

Durante estas reuniones de clase, los alumnos han expresado sus opiniones sobre todo tipo de temas, desde los uniformes escolares hasta las pol\u00edticas y procedimientos para el almuerzo. Mientras escucho a los alumnos expresar sus opiniones, les animo a que razonen por qu\u00e9 les molestan estos procedimientos y a que hagan una lluvia de ideas sobre posibles soluciones. Es importante subrayar que los verdaderos defensores de los derechos se orientan hacia las soluciones. Tambi\u00e9n piensan cr\u00edticamente sobre otras posibles perspectivas y sobre por qu\u00e9 se han establecido estos procedimientos. En este ambiente abierto y de aceptaci\u00f3n, los alumnos aprenden a respetar las opiniones de los dem\u00e1s, cuestionan sus propias ideas y empiezan a entender por qu\u00e9 el mundo es como es.\"RocketshipEducation_TransformersQuote\"<\/p>\n

Los estudiantes tienen una voz que pide ser escuchada, no s\u00f3lo en los bloques de instrucci\u00f3n de la jornada escolar, sino en las comunidades que construir\u00e1n y en el mundo que cambiar\u00e1n. Desde que empec\u00e9 con estas reuniones de clase, he observado que incluso los alumnos m\u00e1s t\u00edmidos empiezan a abrirse durante las reuniones y a participar y comprometerse cada vez m\u00e1s a lo largo de nuestras lecciones. Y lo que es a\u00fan m\u00e1s importante, utilizar\u00e1n ese mismo poder para defender a sus comunidades. Nuestros alumnos controlar\u00e1n alg\u00fan d\u00eda las leyes que se dicten, las decisiones que provoquen avances m\u00e9dicos y cient\u00edficos, los conflictos b\u00e9licos, la reforma educativa y la tecnolog\u00eda e ingenier\u00eda de vanguardia que conformar\u00e1n la cultura de nuestra sociedad.<\/p>\n

Es nuestra responsabilidad como educadores no s\u00f3lo ayudarles a acceder al conocimiento del mundo y a manejarlo, sino darles las herramientas que les conviertan en aprendices permanentes y en fuerzas del cambio. Nuestros alumnos deben saber que merecen una educaci\u00f3n excelente y que merecen las mismas oportunidades que los dem\u00e1s.<\/p>\n

Esta es la \u00fanica forma en que pueden y van a ponerse de pie y dirigir el futuro - nuestro futuro.
