Rocketship Legacy Prep Comes Home

January 22nd was a monumental day for our Rocketeers at Legacy Prep in Washington, DC, as they came home to their brand new building in Ward 7. Rocketship Legacy Prep started their school year sharing space with Rocketship Rise Academy in Ward 8, while they waited for their state-of -the-art building to be ready. And it was certainly worth the wait! This move cements our Rocketeers in their home community where they will continue to build their legacy of academic and personal excellence.

To celebrate their homecoming, we rolled out the purple carpet to welcome Rocketeers into their new space. Tamika Joyner, from our DC Growth & Community Engagement team, took over the Rocketship Instagram account to commemorate this special day. Check out her photos below!

Good morning from your nation’s capital! My name is Tamika Joyner and today is the first day for our Rocketship Legacy Prep Rocketeers in their brand new building! Follow me as we celebrate coming home.

Founding Rocketship Legacy Prep Parents rolled out the PURPLE carpet this morning to start our day with excitement.

The family cheering squad not only motivated our Rocketeers to have a great day of learning, but also showed them how much we ALL believe in their amazing potential.

We start every day at Rocketship dancing, and today was no exception with our morning Launch, led by Principal Rabin. Can you see our custom Rocketship Legacy Prep mural in the background?

Our parents helped out with breakfast today! At Rocketship, all kids receive free breakfast and lunch every day. Furthermore, our parents are welcome into our school and classrooms all day every day. We believe that parent/teacher partnerships are crucial.

Ready, set, blast off! We engage our students’ minds, bodies, and hearts. Delivering a well-rounded education builds the critical thinking, team work, character skills and values that our Rocketeers need to thrive in school and life.

Our teachers take a quick break during enrichment to enjoy the amphitheater seating in our atrium. All our schools offer a diverse array of enrichment classes, selected in partnership with our parents, such as art, nutrition, gardening, music, dance, and more. Read more about our model here.

Our office manager, Ms. McLean, and officer, Mr. Napier, do a great job of making sure every family and visitor is greeted when they walk in the Legacy Prep door.

Our Rocketship Legacy Prep Rocketeers were super excited to be at school this morning and showed it with smiles and hugs! Unlike traditional elementary schools, students at Rocketship rotate between four content blocks every day: Humanities, STEM, Learning Lab and Enrichment. This model allows us to improve student outcomes by developing teachers who specialize in their grade and subject areas.

Founding School Leaders Mr. Rabin and Ms. Hodge enjoyed the day and had some fun after dismissal. They are ready to wake up and do it again tomorrow!
