How Rocketship Students Turned Core Values into Community Impact on Rocketship Cares Day

On May 29, more than 700 elementary school students across Milwaukee put empathy into action.

Rocketship Southside Community Prep and Rocketship Transformation Prep came together for Rocketship Cares Day—a citywide day of service where students stepped out of their classrooms and into their communities. The goal? To live out Rocketship’s core values—responsibility, respect, empathy, and persistence—through meaningful, hands-on acts of kindness.

From preparing care kits for veterans to cleaning up local parks and spending time with seniors, every grade level led its own project tied to the values they practice daily in school.

Our core values aren’t posters on a wall—they’re embedded in every classroom conversation, conflict resolution, and celebration. Rocketship Cares Day brings those lessons to life, showing students that their voices, actions, and compassion can make a difference right now, even in elementary school.

Highlights from Rocketship Cares Day included:

Third through fifth graders from Transformation Prep visiting seniors at Luther Manor in Wauwatosa, sparking joy through games and conversations.
Second graders from Southside Community Prep rolling up their sleeves to clean up Jackson Park and care for the public spaces that shape their city.
Fourth graders from Southside engaging in intergenerational learning and kindness at Villa St. Francis.
K–5 students at both schools participating in classroom activities exploring social issues and what it means to be a changemaker.

This citywide effort showcased the incredible potential of Milwaukee’s youngest citizens—and the powerful impact of integrating service and character into public education. Rocketship Cares Day was not only a celebration of values in action—it was a moment of pride for families, staff, and supporters across our Wisconsin region.
